LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). S# 37926. Scarce early Second Model with large checkered thumbprint dust cover and screw attached rail. Bbl. 24" octagon, with combination front sight, sporting rear sight, and thick base Vernier tang sight. Button mag. Blued bbl. & mag tube with nickel finished action. Walnut forearm and straight grip stock, with crescent steel trapdoor buttplate. Mfg. in 1879. CONDITION: receiver retains 20% original nickel in protected areas, with balance of metal having faded to gray, showing small spots of very light pitting. Wood has age darkened appearance, with scratches and marks. Stock shows minor chips around the action and lower tang. Mechanically fine. Bore retains strong rifling, showing some very light pitting. (01-27080/DS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-5,000.
